Hornets

Hornets are part of the wasp family and are a dangerous pest in the UK.

Their biology and behavioural characteristics are similar to that of a common wasp, and hornets will often nest in loft spaces, sheds and other dark hidden areas. Although these pests tend to nest in smaller numbers than wasps, the sheer size of a hornet makes them a health threat, as their stings can cause significant damage.

How to Identify Hornets’ Nest

Hornets – often described as ‘wasps on steroids’ – look similar to large, angry wasps and may find their way into your home or business.

If you notice an increased level of hornet activity, for example through physical sightings – especially when eating or drinking on a hot day – it’s likely there is a hornets’ nest nearby.

You may spot a regular stream of hornets entering a hole close to your guttering or roof tiles, or through holes in brickwork. If so, chances are the pests are nesting there and breeding in the cavity. If this is the case, you should seek professional advice from Mavis Pest Control as soon as possible.
